I created MilleFeuille Photography in February 2006 as a synthesis of my passion of travel and photography. Our world is full or color and texture that should be celebrated. My work reflects a deep love and respect for the individuals and places that have welcomed me during my travels.
MilleFeuille, meaning literally a thousand layers, is the idea that multiple layers exist within each of us and within our world. As those layers are revealed through photography, they awaken the humanity within each of us. An image may touch a part of us that sets off nostalgia or touches a deep, and perhaps previously unknown, layer within.
The humanity of our world is alive within each person and also within the physical world around us. I am motivated by my deep desire to connect with the world and commune with the people who seem so different from me on every level. It is clear to me that differences in geography, culture, ethnicity, socio-economics and language only overshadow the reality that we are all connected in a deeper human rhythm. Being out in the world and taking the time to fall into the rhythm of a place makes this connection very apparent.
My favorite moments are the interactions…. that moment when a game of charades and an exchange of smiles allows me to share a laugh with a woman or child around the world or that moment when the light is at the perfect angle to reveal the exquisiteness of humanity.
When not abroad, I reside in my native California and dedicate myself to MilleFeuille Photography. Along with shooting freelance photography, including portraits and commercial work, I can be found on the art festival circuit.
That an image can open us up to a new layer of ourselves is magical. I feel a bit of this magic as I capture each interaction in a frozen moment. It is a joy to share those moments with you.
